How We Find the Damage First
Before any repair starts, we run a CCTV camera through the pipe. That gives us footage of exactly what's wrong, where it is, and how bad it's got. You'll know whether you're dealing with a hairline crack, a root ingress point, a joint displacement, or a section that's fully collapsed.
That survey matters because it determines the method. Relining a pipe that's partially collapsed won't hold. Excavating a pipe that's only cracked at one joint is unnecessary. The camera tells us which approach is right before a single tool goes in the ground.
No-Dig Relining: When It's an Option
Drain relining is the preferred fix where the pipe still has its basic shape. We insert a resin-impregnated liner, position it over the damaged section, then inflate and cure it in place. The result is a smooth, continuous surface bonded inside the original pipe.
It works well on:
- Hairline cracks and fractures in clay or concrete pipes
- Root ingress points where the joint has opened slightly
- Pipes running under driveways, paths or extensions where digging would cause serious disruption
- Sections with minor joint displacement that haven't fully separated
Relining isn't always possible. A pipe that's crushed, fully displaced, or badly misaligned needs excavation first. We won't reline a pipe that isn't structurally sound enough to hold the liner long-term.
Remedial work, including relining and pipe replacement, carries a 20-year guarantee.
Excavation and Pipe Replacement
Some damage needs the old pipe out. A section that's collapsed under root pressure, a clay pipe crushed by ground movement, or a joint that's shifted out of alignment by several inches, these can't be relined reliably.
When we excavate, we dig to the damaged section, remove it, and replace it with new pipe to current standards. We backfill carefully and reinstate the surface. Where the ground has settled or eroded around the pipe, we deal with that too.
